Careena is a Registered HCPC Arts therapist (Dramatherapist) with a Master’s in Drama psychotherapy from the University of Roehampton, and additional degrees in Language Studies and Education. She holds professional teaching qualifications in both the UK and Hong Kong, alongside certifications in Child-Centred Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
With over a decade of experience in teaching and therapy, Careena has served in various counselling and supervisory roles across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions. As Vice President of the International Diversified Life-Education Association, she actively promotes charitable work in special needs education and therapy. She has worked in medical institutions like the NHS and collaborated with local organisations to expand the reach of Dramatherapy.
Her interventions through arts, drama, and play therapy offer creative, non-verbal approaches to exploring emotions, building resilience, and fostering personal growth. These therapeutic methods are particularly effective in helping clients process trauma, improve communication, and enhance emotional regulation. By using artistic expression as a medium, Careena helps individuals of all ages develop self-awareness and coping strategies in a safe, supportive environment.
Her expertise spans working with children, youth, adults, and the elderly, addressing a range of challenges including SEND, Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, trauma, and emotional distress such as anxiety and depression.
Beyond therapy, Careena has a rich background in the arts, with over ten years of stage performance experience. She was a freelance actress and, in 2020, received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Hong Kong Education Bureau. In the realm of sports, she has over 15 years of coaching experience as a professional Taekwondo coach and was selected as a member of the Hong Kong National Team.
Careena is a member of several professional bodies including the British Association of Dramatherapists (BADth), The Complementary Medical Association (CMA), the Hong Kong Association of Dramatherapists (HKADP), and World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). She offers private therapy services both online and in person and regularly organizes workshops for public, schools and institutions to promote the integration of drama, arts, and mental health.
