Experience and areas of work
I have been in private practice for a number of years and have undertaken training and gained clinical experience in bereavement support. I have also worked clinically as an honorary therapist at a specialist counselling charity supporting people with concerns relating to relationships, sexuality and sexual wellbeing. Alongside my counselling practice, I have several years of experience as a counselling tutor and lecturer in further education.
My work includes supporting people through bereavement and loss, the impact of traumatic experiences, relationship difficulties, work-related stress, depression and low mood, anxiety and low self-esteem. People may also come to counselling feeling stuck, overwhelmed by difficult emotions or unsure how to move forward.
How I work
In psychodynamic counselling, we can explore what is happening in your life now, including experiences and feelings that may have been difficult to make sense of or find a place for. You may already recognise why you respond in certain ways, yet still find yourself caught in familiar patterns. Together, we can explore these patterns and how earlier experiences and significant relationships may continue to shape how you feel and relate to others today.
My aim is not simply to help you find explanations, but to support a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships. This can open up new perspectives and help you discover different ways of relating to yourself and others, and of responding to life's challenges.
You don't need to know exactly what you want to talk about before beginning counselling. Sometimes, it helps simply to have the time to talk things through and explore what has been on your mind. We can begin with whatever feels important to you and see where it leads.
